Kathy Panepento

Kathy is a Registered Nurse (RN) and a certified End of Life (EOL) Doula who has worked in End of Life Care for more than 35 years. Her passion is to ensure a dignified quality of life till the dying one’s last breath, in addition to being an empathetic support person to the families she serves. Kathy’s experience comes from the Buffalo Hospice in-patient unit where she gained her expertise in effective symptom control management. She was also instrumental in getting Genesee County Hospice certified and operational, in her role of nurse coordinator. Education is her forte, as she trains volunteers from the community to become Resident Caregivers or End of Life Doulas at Crossroads House, along with providing education to our families and community on the dying process. She emphasizes that a good death can be achieved with the proper support and education. Her goal is to educate our community on the importance of having those vital, intimate conversations with their loved ones about their end of life care, and making their wishes known. (“We all are going to die, so let’s work on getting the elephant out of the room and have those family conversations before it’s too late!”) Kathy is the founder of Crossroads House (1998) and is the Director of Resident Care and EOL Doula Services. She also serves on the Crossroads House Board of Directors. Kathy has been married to Frank Panepento for 28 years and has two grown sons (Scott & Adam Kahabka). She is a proud grandma to 2 grandchildren (Declan & Kendall) with another one on the way. Kathy’s hobby is photography and she loves to photograph the residents at Crossroads House enjoying their quality of life by participating in what they love to do during their final act of living!
