Crossroads House is staffed with professional RNs, LPNs, and Nursing Assistants. An RN or LPN nurse is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Although the nurses are not present in the house 24 hours a day, they are present at least 8 hours a day on weekdays and at least 4 hours a day on weekends.
The nurses, staff and trained volunteers become the resident’s "extended family." They provide care that addresses their physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs, all to ensure a dignified quality of life for their remaining days.
The nurses and volunteers provide the same care that would be given to one of your loved ones at home. Hands-on resident care is provided around the clock, which include bathing, preparation of simple meals, assisting with feeding, as well as companionship, emotional and spiritual support.
Simple nursing procedures such as skin care, medication administration, nebulizer treatments are also performed by the nurses and trained volunteers.
The main goals of the nurses are pain management and proper symptom control management. The nurses work closely with the Medical Director and Certified Home Health agency (Hospice, VNA or Rochester Home Care) to ensure proper symptom control management.
The nurses are also responsible for pre-pouring, labeling and stocking unit dose medication for the residents, as well as supervising the volunteers and para-professional staff.
We also have a Volunteer Medical Director who conducts a physical exam within 24 hours of admission, and prescribes comfort care medications. She is also available for consultation upon the resident's or family's request.
